When Donating more than a few books please call the library at 775-7951 to arrange to be met at the house for drop off..

FOSL NEWS FRIENDS OF THE SMOOT LIBRARY NEWSLETTER 6/16/2009 |
|
Membership We now have 114 members on the roll. Many renewed at the book sale in May. However many still need to renew from last year. If you are not sure of your renew date give me a call. A renewal form is included with this newsletter and can be left at the library or annex during business hours. Members get 20% on all Annex sales!
Library Annex Bookstore The house and garage have now become a part time bookstore. There are permanent shelves and tables so that books can be up and offered for sale year round until the plan for the expansion of the library comes to fruition. The Annex is a great success! We have already had a number of customers and have brought in over $500 in the last six weeks. Every week we have seen more people dropping in and more sales. There is a steady stream of book donations as well. We have thousand of books to choose from and new ones coming in every day.
At this time the hours the ANNEX is open to the public are Wed 4:00-6:30 and Sat 10:00-12:00 and we are hoping to add more hours but we need more volunteers. The goal is to be staffed 15 hours a week so that we can qualify for the Combined Federal campaign list for the government facilities in the area. Books are no longer offered for sale within the library and donations of books should be brought to the Annex and not the library
Thanks to the volunteers at the Library Annex Thank you Linda Adair, Jenni Jones Sarah, Jeff and John. The Annex would not run as smooth without you.
Library Annex Help Needed!! There is a desperate need for assistance with book donation intakes, sorting books, straightening and manning the bookstore during business hours as well as working in off hours. I am attaching a list of what volunteers can help out with. All volunteers get 2 free books for volunteering and first dibs at the wonderful books that come in weekly. This is a great and enjoyable way to help out the Friends!!

New Officers Needed A FOSL meeting was held June 1 and only the outgoing treasurer and secretary showed. There is a great need for someone to take these positions as well as VP. We need an Annex committee and book sale committee. At the moment it is a one woman show most of the time and that is me. We also need volunteers for the Annex organization, advertising and scheduling. We need volunteers! Without assistance and volunteers the Friends will fail and it has been so helpful with programs and materials for the library. The Friends are needed more than ever!
There will be a FOSL meeting for all members to be held July 7th at 7:00 pm. I will send out another reminder the weekend before and those without email we shall call. Let me know if you are interested in any position. Please call Regina Collins 540-840-0907 or email mail to: lliatris@va.metrocast.net for more info.
Donations Requested We are accepting books, DVDs, puzzles etc. as well as any bookshelves, tables, doors, and sawhorses for setting the books up on. FOSL is a non-profit charity and all donations are tax deductible. Bring donations to the Annex or I can also make arrangements for pick up when needed.
Book Bags FOSL book bags are still on sale for $5. These roomy bags are perfect for book hauling and grocery shopping and can be found at the Annex.
For more information or to volunteer: please call Regina Collins at 540-840-0907 or email lliatris@va.metrocast.net – I’ll get back to you!
