Commissioner of the Revenue

The commissioner of the revenue is a constitutional office, elected to a four-year term in each county and large city in Virginia.


Functions include processing personal property, business tangible and assessments of real estate taxation, as well as processing and auditing state income tax returns and estimated state income taxes.

In addition, the commissioner’s office collects meals tax, county business license and transient occupancy tax, as well as land use and exemption for the elderly and disabled and disabled veterans. The commissioner’s office is also responsible for the distribution of cigarette stamps within King George County and confirms local retailers comply monthly.
